Thousands of independent pharmacies to be dropped from Tricare network

Nearly 15,000 independent and community pharmacies will be dropped from Tricare's network next month, military.com reported Sept. 23.

Beginning Oct. 24, 14,963 retail pharmacies will no longer be a part of Tricare's network, managed by Express Scripts.

A spokesperson for the pharmacy benefit manager told military.com over 90 percent of Tricare beneficiaries will still have an in-network pharmacy within 15 minutes of their home.

The Military Officers Association of America said that this change will affect around 400,000 Tricare beneficiaries.

"MOAA is concerned about how this change will impact military families, particularly those in rural areas who lost access to Walmart pharmacy services less than a year ago," the association said.

Express Scripts dropped Walmart pharmacies in December 2021 and added CVS pharmacies to the Tricare network.
