These 16 states cover weight loss drugs for their employees

At least 16 states provide coverage of GLP-1 drugs for weight loss to state employees, according to data from Leverage and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Per consulting firm Leverage, 15 states provide coverage to their employees. Illinois has added coverage of the drugs for state employees as of July 1.

GLP-1 drugs approved for weight loss, including Wegovy, Saxenda and Zepbound, can cost over $10,000 a year. Some employers have stopped covering the drugs for employees because of their cost.

In January, North Carolina officials said the state would no longer cover the drug for employees, citing high costs.
