“The Blues are guided by what I’d call a north star,” Ms. Keck told the magazine in an interview published Oct. 28. “And that is largely around advancing well-being and health equity, but also a relentless focus on pursuing affordability.”

Ms. Keck told the magazine the payer association’s first focus in its national health equity strategy is reducing maternal health disparities.

The BCBS Association released a report in September detailing actions it would take to decrease racial disparities in maternal morbidity.

Achieving greater health equity won’t be possible without value-based reforms, Ms. Keck said.

“Picking the right partners is part of operational excellence,” Ms. Keck said. “We don’t necessarily solve any healthcare issues without working with almost every other stakeholder in the industry.”
