The 10 drugs Medicare spends the most on

Five of the 10 drugs with the highest Medicare Part D spending are diabetes treatments, including Ozempic, according to an analysis from KFF.

The report, published July 12, found the 10 drugs with the highest Medicare costs accounted for 22 percent of Part D spending in 2022.

Later this year, CMS will publish 10 drugs selected to negotiate with the agency for Medicare pricing for 2026. KFF's report noted two of the most expensive drugs will not be eligible for negotiation because they are too new, and three will not be eligible because they have biosimilar competitors.

Editor's note: Spending amounts reflect gross spending and do not account for rebates that may result in lower net spending.
