Suburban Chicago physician charged with defrauding BCBS Illinois, Medicare for over $4M 

A suburban Chicago physician is facing up to 10 years in federal prison after being charged July 12 with one count of healthcare fraud against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and Medicare.

John Greager II, MD, owned Cancer Therapy Associates in Lombard, Ill., where he specialized in mole removals for cancer screenings, according to a Justice Department news release.

From 2015 to 2021, Dr. Greager allegedly submitted $4.1 million in false claims to BCBS Illinois and Medicare. The alleged fraud scheme involved misrepresentations of provided mole removal services and medically unnecessary removals.
