States with the lowest rates of Medicare Advantage adoption in 2023

Just 1 percent of people eligible for Medicare in Alaska are enrolled in Medicare Advantage, according to data from Chartis.

Nationwide, 48 percent of Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in Medicare Advantage, according to Chartis’ report, published March 23. 

Here are the states with the lowest percentage of Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in MA plans: 

  1. Alaska: 1 percent
  2. Wyoming: 11 percent
  3. Maryland: 21 percent
  4. Montana: 27 percent
  5. Delaware: 29 percent
  6. North Dakota: 29 percent
  7. Kansas: 30 percent
  8. Nebraska: 30 percent
  9. Vermont: 30 percent
  10. District of Columbia: 31 percent
  11. New Hampshire: 32 percent
