Twenty-one percent of Americans have a mental health issue, but only 11 percent have received mental healthcare this year, while 11 percent of those with mental illness have not.
To determine the best states for mental healthcare, QuoteWizard looked at five key factors: the prevalence of mental illness in each state, access to mental healthcare, the number of people who have received care, the number of people who needed care but didn't get it, and mental illness and health insurance rates.
The analysis determined that Connecticut has the best mental healthcare in the nation overall because the state has a high degree of access to care, a low number of uninsured residents with mental health issues and a low number of people who aren't able to utilize mental health services. South Carolina has the lowest percentage of residents that have a mental illness and don't have health coverage, while Alabama has the highest.
