South Dakotans deliver petition to put Medicaid expansion on 2022 ballot

Over 46,000 South Dakota residents signed and submitted a petition to vote on expanding the state’s Medicaid program.

If approved in 2022, the expansion would make South Dakota the 39th state to expand Medicaid, covering about 42,500 state residents, according to a Nov. 8 news release from South Dakotans Decide Healthcare shared with Becker’s

The move makes South Dakota the seventh state to look toward a ballot measure in order to expand Medicaid coverage.
