South Dakota voters expand Medicaid

South Dakota voters approved a ballot measure that will expand the state's Medicaid program under the ACA, Politico reported Nov. 9.

The expansion, which will take effect in July 2023, is expected to cover more than 40,000 people, according to the report.

The state is the seventh in the past five years to expand Medicaid through a ballot measure, according to the report. In total, 40 states and D.C. have now expanded Medicaid. South Dakota's measure passed with about 56 percent of the vote, according to preliminary final results.
