Following national guidance encouraging some vaccinated individuals to receive a COVID-19 booster, some Blue Cross and Blue Shield affiliates are already offering to fully cover the shots.
Michigan and Louisiana were the first two affiliates to announce Aug. 18 that members wouldn't have to pay for the third booster dose of mRNA vaccines.
"It is critical that we continue to have a shared effort to defeat the virus," said Daniel Loepp, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan president and CEO. "Blue Cross wants to play our part and ensure that our members have ready access to the additional dose of the vaccine when their turn comes to receive it."
Those who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or those who do not have health conditions that put them at heightened risk do not need to receive a booster yet, according to KADN.
