The new model will first be available to employers based in Ohio with at least 51 employees and will allow members to see any doctor and access the payer’s member care team, according to an April 11 press release.
Plan members can see service prices before receiving care, compare provider costs and pay providers directly using a Sidecar Visa card.
The Philadelphia-based insurtech firm claims their model will generate 39 percent greater average savings than traditional insurance plans. Sidecar also plans to expand the model to additional states.
“Everyone deserves access to care. Sidecar Health is about providing our members with complete transparency and the ability to shop for the best care possible independently,” founder and CEO Patrick Quigley said. “Expanding our offerings to employers was naturally the next step for Sidecar Health, and we are excited to continue expanding our offerings to reach and benefit more and more people.”
