Point32Health expands maternal health program with Brigham and Women's, Harvard

Point32Health is bringing its TeamBirth maternal healthcare program to nine more hospitals and provider groups in Massachusetts.

The initiative is a partnership with Ariadne Labs, a center for health systems innovation at Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

TeamBirth is designed to improve equity, safety and dignity during childbirth, according to an Oct. 4 news release. The program is designed to facilitate communication between patients, families and care teams by developing a birth plan with patients and using tools aimed at reducing cesarean deliveries.

The program was piloted at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. According to the news release, 93 percent of clinicians surveyed believed the program improved clinical outcomes, and 87 percent of patients said they had the role they wanted in their labor.

Point32Health is the parent company of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan.
