Physician indicted for alleged fraud against Aetna, Premera

An Alaska grand jury has indicted a physician and three clinic managers on felony charges over alleged billing fraud against the state's Medicaid program, Aetna and Premera BCBS of Alaska, Alaska Public Media reported Oct. 13.

Ray Lynn Carlson, MD, owner of two medical clinics in Kenai and Nikiski, allegedly submitted fraudulent claims to Alaska Medicaid and the two payers from 2014 to 2019. Each defendant is facing 23 criminal counts that include fraud and theft, according to the report.

The indictment alleges that the defendants overbilled the insurers and submitted false medical codes in some cases.
