Payers ranked by total membership | Q4 2023

UnitedHealthcare ended 2023 with the largest total membership of large payers across Medicare, Medicaid, military, commercial and individual business. 

According to the company's fourth-quarter earnings report, it added around 1 million members in 2023. 

Here's how the largest payers stacked up on total medical membership at the end of 2023:

2. Elevance Health — 46,961,000
3. Centene — 27,474,000
4. CVS Health — 25,659,000
5. Cigna — 19,780,000
6. Humana — 16,857,800
