Payers ranked by Q3 revenue, profit

The nation's largest payers have filed their third-quarter earnings reports, revealing which grew their revenues and net incomes the most year over year. Individual BCBS company revenues and profits in the first half of 2023 are also available.

1. UnitedHealth Group
Revenue: $92.4 billion, up 14%
Net income: $5.8 billion, up 11%

UnitedHealthcare
Revenue: $69.9 billion, up 13%
Operating income: $4.6 billion, up 21%

2. CVS Health
Revenue: $89.8 billion, up 10.6%
Net income: $2.3 billion, up from a $3.4 billion loss

Aetna
Revenue: $26.3 billion, up 16.9%
Operating income: $1.5 billion, down 6.4%

3. Cigna Group
Revenue: $49 billion, up 8.3%
Net income: $1.4 billion, down 49%

Cigna Healthcare (insurance)
Revenue: $12.8 billion, up 14.2%
Operating income: $1.2 billion, up 16.4%

4. Elevance Health
Revenue:  $42.5 billion, up 7.2%
Net income: $1.3 billion, down 19.6%

Health benefits division
Revenue: $36.7 billion, up 4.8%
Operating income: $1.8 billion, up 13%

5. Centene
Revenue: $38 billion, up 6.1%
Net income: $469 million, down 36%

6. Humana
Revenue: $26.4 billion, up 16%
Net income: $832 million, down 30.7%

Insurance segment
Revenue: $25.5 billion, up 17.3%
Operating income: $722 million, down 17.3%
