In total, 18 major insurers exited some Medicare Advantage markets in 2025, with more than 1.8 million people enrolled in plans in 2024 that will not exist next year. Market exits by Humana, Aetna, and UnitedHealthcare collectively affect nearly 70% of those 1.8 million individuals.
In 2025, three companies entered the MA market for the first time, while eight companies completely exited the market. More than half (58%) of Medicare beneficiaries live in a county where at least one company is offering 10 or more plans, according to KFF.
Though Humana is available in more counties in 2025 than any other major insurer, the company’s plans are available in 58 fewer counties than 2024. UnitedHealthcare is offering plans in four more counties compared to 2024, despite the company exiting 38 counties.
