UnitedHealth Group's OptumRx arm is denying it agreed to pay $15 million to settle overcharging allegations, the Ohio Capital Journal reported Oct. 27.
The Ohio Attorney General's Office said in an Oct. 25 news release the pharmacy benefit manager had agreed to pay that sum to settle allegations it overcharged the state's Bureau of Workers Compensation $15.8 million from 2015 to 2018.
However, an Optum spokesperson told the news outlet a final agreement with the attorney general's office had not been reached and that the company continues to dispute the allegations.
An Ohio attorney general's office spokesperson told the news outlet the office did not anticipate that OptumRx would deny the case had been settled.
"We were surprised to see a statement from OptumRx saying that they thought we didn't have a deal," the spokesperson told the Ohio Capital Journal. "An agreement was reached. We are in conversations with OptumRx today to determine why they are trying to back out."
