The average premium cost for Medicare Advantage plans sold on eHealth increased from $6 a month in 2022 to $9 in 2023, according to the online insurance marketplace's annual "Medicare Index Report."
The report, published April 27, is based on over 160,000 applications submitted to eHealth during Medicare open enrollment in 2022.
The average monthly premium for Part D prescription drug plans was $32 for 2023, up from $22 the previous year.
Though the average monthly cost increased for individuals enrolling in Medicare Advantage plans with premiums, most enrollees in the program still choose plans with no premium cost, according to eHealth's data. In 2023, 84 percent of plans selected by enrollees had no premium cost, down slightly from 87 percent in 2023.
The average deductible for Medicare Advantage plans was $103 in 2023, down from $121 in 2022.
