The final vote, which came in the early hours of June 26, was part of a bill to secure billions for the state’s Medicaid program, according to NPR.
Eleven of 23 Republicans and all 10 Democrats present rejected the Planned Parenthood amendment proposed by Sen. Bob Onder, R-Lake St. Louis.
The special session was called by Republican Gov. Mike Parson after lawmakers failed to renew a critical healthcare provider tax earlier this month.
Mr. Parson repeatedly warned he would be forced to make $722 million in budget cuts to funds intended for nursing homes and other providers if lawmakers could not come to an agreement before the beginning of the new fiscal year July 1.
