Minnesota awards Medicaid contracts to 9 payers

Minnesota has awarded contracts to nine payers to manage the state's Medicaid program, the state's human services department said Oct. 5.

Contracts were awarded to these nine managed care organizations, according to a news release:

  • Blue Plus
  • HealthPartners
  • Hennepin Health
  • Itasca Medical Care
  • Medica
  • PrimeWest Health
  • South Country Health Alliance
  • UCare
  • United Healthcare Community Plan of Minnesota

Around 600,000 people will be covered by the new contracts, the human services department said.

The contract award process prioritized plans' abilities to address health equity, outcome disparities and the needs of rural residents, according to the news release.

"These contracts are expanded to improve timely, equitable access to care. We look forward to working with the health plans to drive toward greater outcomes on behalf of the people we support," Minnesota Human Services Commissioner Jodi Harpstead said in the release.
