Sentara Health Plans will not offer Medicare Advantage, MA prescription drug HMO, or C-SNP plans in Virginia, North Carolina and Florida in 2026.
“These products are no longer financially sustainable in the current environment. Industry-wide headwinds and market dynamics, including reimbursement trends and regulatory changes, are leading many insurers to reassess their participation in Medicare Advantage,” a spokesperson told Becker’s.
Sentara will also lay off more than 200 employees, including 127 in Virginia and 80 at its AvMed subsidiary in Florida, according to regulatory documents.
The insurer, part of Hampton Roads, Va.-based Sentara Health, will continue to offer D-SNP, employer, individual and family, and Medicaid plans.
