Medicare Advantage enrollment has surpassed traditional Medicare for the first time in the program's history.
According to a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis published May 1, Medicare Advantage enrollment reached 30.19 million members in January, compared to 29.63 million members in traditional Medicare.
Enrollment in the program has steadily increased since 2007, when just 19 percent of Medicare-eligible beneficiaries enrolled in the private plans.
Under current growth trends, the program is expected to make up 69 percent of Medicare enrollments by 2030.
