Molina Healthcare took over the contract for a specialized Florida Medicaid and CHIP plan, previously managed by Centene’s Sunshine Health, on Oct. 1.

Molina first announced it had secured the contract in November 2025, but the start date had not been confirmed. At the time, Molina expected to serve roughly 120,000 enrollees of the Title XIX and Title XXI Children’s Medical Services Plan, available to some children with special healthcare needs.

An April 2026 notice from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration outlined the Oct. 1 date and a continuity-of-care policy that would allow recipients to see current providers until May 31, 2027, at the latest.

Molina’s initial news release said the contract was anticipated to run through 2030, and the total premiums paid under the program for 2025 were expected to be roughly $5 billion. On a February earnings call, Molina CEO Joseph Zubretsky said the contract was expected to generate $6 billion in annual run-rate premium revenue.
