Louisiana will end its agreement with UnitedHealthcare, one of the state’s six Medicaid contractors, Dec. 31, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

As of Nov. 1, UnitedHealthcare had more than 330,000 Medicaid enrollees in the state, the department said. State lawmakers had prepared to extend the contract in November.

“The department is making preparations to distribute current membership for UnitedHealthcare participants to other plans,” the spokesperson said.

The insurer said it is aware of the change.

“We remain committed to working with the Louisiana Department of Health through this transition. We value the longstanding relationship with the state of Louisiana that has allowed us to provide access to high-quality care and coverage to more than 300,000 Medicaid members,” the insurer said in a statement shared with Becker’s.

News outlets had reported Dec. 9 that the state would no longer work with Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, as well, but a department spokesperson confirmed the contract’s renewal.
