The proposed settlement was filed in federal district court in California Dec. 29. It must be approved by a judge.

The lawsuit was brought by a group of health insurers and company plans, The Hill reported.

McKinsey has settled a series of lawsuits from states, local governments and Native American tribes. In 2021, the consulting firm paid $573 million to 47 states to settle allegations it advised Purdue Pharma to ramp up sales of OxyContin.

In a previous statement, McKinsey said it continues to believe its previous work was lawful. The company stopped advising clients on any opioid-related business in 2019.
