Officials said the enrollment push could save the city’s hospital system — NYC Health + Hospitals — $40 million annually, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Mayor de Blasio said the campaign to increase ACA health plan enrollment — called GetCoveredNYC — will challenge President-elect Donald Trump and Republican leaders looking to repeal and replace the ACA. GetCoveredNYC involves increasing city workers’ community outreach efforts through in-person in-home meetings and office hours at community partners or elected officials’ offices.
NYC Health + Hospitals is projected to see a $1.8 billion budget gap by fiscal year 2020, according to the report. Officials said caring for uninsured patients costs the system $940 million annually.
