The study, written by researchers at Humana, surveyed over 300,000 Humana Medicare Advantage enrollees.
Beneficiaries who were dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid were more likely to have health-related social needs, with 80 percent reporting at least one of seven needs.
The most common health-related social need in the sample was financial instability, with around 2 in 5 enrollees reporting instability. Around 3 in 5 dual eligible enrollees reported instability.
Around 1 in 4 enrollees reported food insecurity, and around half of dual-eligible enrollees experienced food insecurity.
Medicare beneficiaries younger than 65, who qualify for the program based on certain disabilities, were more likely to have health-related social needs than older beneficiaries, the study found.
