Lyft rides now paid for by Medicaid in Arizona

Lyft became the first national ride-sharing company to be an enrolled provider for millions of Medicaid beneficiaries in Arizona, the company said June 26.

Four things to know:

1. Medicaid will now pay for Lyft transportation for Arizona patients who are eligible for rides to and from medical appointments.

2. Lyft said it is actively enrolling and exploring Medicaid transportation opportunities in other states, particularly Florida and Texas.

3. The ride-share company predicts that as more states allow government insurers to pay for Lyft transportation, Lyft could help almost 65 million people access medical appointments.

4. The announcement came after new state regulations for nonemergency medical transportation were passed in Arizona.
