Researchers with the American Cancer Society examined cohorts of adults aged 18 to 64 with private insurance and Medicaid from the National Health Interview Survey.

Adults with both types of insurance who reported a coverage lapse within a 12-month period had higher risks of mortality, the researchers’ analysis found.

The study’s authors wrote the findings indicate health coverage status could be an important addition to social risk screenings.
