The nation’s largest publicly operated health plan said it believes gun violence is a public health crisis that must be addressed through regulated firearm sales and better mental healthcare access, according to a June 3 news release.

The resolution advocates for a federal ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and background checks for anyone purchasing a firearm. The health plan is also calling for more mental health funding, including increased care access and workforce growth.
