Independence Blue Cross partners with 2 maternal care companies to address health inequities

Independence Blue Cross is partnering with Philadelphia-based Cocolife.black and Cayaba Care to address racial disparities in maternal health.

Cocolife.black is a community resource available to anyone and is designed to support mothers of color during pregnancy, postpartum and loss. The company provides access to education and community resources such as free diapers, formula and child care services, according to a July 11 news release.

Cayaba Care provides pregnant and postpartum individuals with personalized in-office, in-home and virtual services that include emotional and mental support, help with hospital appointments, symptom management and benefit navigation. Individuals are matched with a maternity navigator from their neighborhood who serves as the main point of contact. Individuals also have access to a care team that includes registered nurses, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, social workers, lactation consultants and registered dietician nutritionists.

Independence members under a commercial plan and who are pregnant or postpartum may be eligible for Cayaba Care, which is determined using a risk algorithm that assesses members' social determinants of health.
