A Florida bill aims to establish a marketplace for employees to use their premium contributions through individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements.
The bill would build on the state’s former health insurance marketplace, modifying the name to the Florida Employee Health Choices Program.
Employer and individual participation would be voluntary. Medicaid recipients would also be allowed to allocate their benefits toward coverage in the marketplace under the legislation.
The bill would also launch a corporation to manage the initiative. Until 2029, the state Department of Management Services would assist with setting up the entity before it must become self-sustaining.
“The bill may have a positive economic impact on small and medium-sized employers and their employees, if the program expands their ability to access affordable healthcare coverage,” a bill analysis said.
