Groups representing insurers, including AHIP and the Better Medicare Alliance, have urged the agency to reverse course on the proposed changes, which many insurers say will lead to benefits cuts for members.

Speaking at the TD Cowen Health Care Conference on March 7, Mr. Broussard said Humana tends to do well in years when CMS tightens payments, Bloomberg reported.

“What we’ve found in those years is that actually we do better,” he said. “We usually grow greater than the market.”

Humana is betting on Medicare Advantage and other forms of government insurance. The company plans to end its commercial group insurance offerings over the next 18 to 24 months.
