Humana launching Onehome value-based home care model in Virginia

Humana is bringing its value-based home care subsidiary, Onehome, to Virginia to expand in-home services for Medicare Advantage members.

Onehome coordinates services that include infusion care, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy and durable medical equipment services within patients' homes, according to a June 9 news release.

The service will launch first in Richmond, Roanoke and Southern Virginia counties. More than 500,000 people with Medicare Advantage plans throughout Virginia and North Carolina will be able to access the service within the next few months. Eventually, Onehome will accept Medicare plans from other payers.

Humana will add approximately 220 employees in Virginia and North Carolina by the end of this year, bringing total employment in the region to more than 2,000.

Within the next five years, the payer expects half of its Medicare Advantage members to have access to the service.

"Humana's acquisition of onehome in 2021 and expansion into Virginia this year further advances the company's commitment to building our home solutions business and value-based offerings," Andrew Agwunobi, MD, president of Humana's home solutions business, said. "There is a tremendous need for a care model that provides high quality, fully-integrated care in the home at reduced cost."
