Humana and DrFirst are launching a new program aimed at closing care gaps among patients with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The first phase of the program will look to increase the use of statin therapy among eligible patients, according to an Aug. 13 news release.
Using DrFirst’s prescription management platform, Humana can initiate new medication recommendations for high-risk patients and submit them to their provider for consideration. The provider can then approve the recommendation and generate a new prescription or note why it is not an appropriate option.
Humana and DrFirst first partnered in 2015 around a real-time prescription benefit tool, which allows providers to view patient-specific coverage, costs and prior authorization requirements at the point of prescribing.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
