Humana boosts Medicare Advantage outlook by 100K members

Humana is projecting at least 100,000 more Medicare Advantage members in 2023 than it originally predicted.

According to a Dec. 1 SEC filing, the payer is expecting to add at least 500,000 new Medicare Advantage members for the coming year, up from the company's original estimate of 325,000 to 400,000 new members.

The revised estimate represents a 10.9 percent increase from Humana's 2022 membership levels, according to the filing.

Humana executives told investors during a third quarter earnings call it was looking to catch up to competitors outpacing the company with Medicare Advantage growth.

"We are committed to growth greater than the industry. We have the capabilities. ... We have the leading positioning in the marketplace. We have the brand. So, we know we can do it," CEO Bruce Broussard told investors Sept. 15.
