Owner of Superior Home Health Services in Texas charged with premiums theft: report

The owner of San Antonio-based Superior Home Health Services has been indicted in connection with the theft of employee insurance premiums, ABC-affiliate KSAT reported Dec. 2.

According to the report, owner and CEO Belinda Jo Juarez was indicted Nov. 16, and is accused of collecting $140,000 in insurance premiums from employees but providing no active coverage policies from 2017 to 2018.

Ms. Juarez is facing federal charges of conspiracy, theft or embezzlement in connection with healthcare benefits, and providing false statements relating to healthcare matters.

Superior Home Health Services provides in-home nursing care and speech, occupation and physical therapy services. In addition to San Antonio, its website lists offices in Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Uvalde, McAllen and Brownsville. It also lists another company, Superior Hospice.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article stated that Humana and BCBS Texas had canceled their contracts with Superior Home Health Services. The two insurers had only temporarily suspended coverage to employees due to an ongoing legal case, which was limited in scope and time to events in 2017. Patient care and coverage have not been impacted, and current employees still have health coverage.
