Horizon adds 3 hospitals to Omnia network

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey admitted three more hospitals to the top tier of its Omnia health insurance network, according to NJ.com.

The newly added hospitals include RaritanBayMedicalCenter in OldBridge, RaritanBay in Perth Amboy and HackensackUMC Palisades. Hackensack (N.J.) Meridian Health owns and operates all three facilities.

Currently, only about half of New Jersey’s acute care hospitals are part of Horizon’s tier 1 network. The tiered nature of the Omnia products incited a number of lawsuits against Horizon from lower-ranked hospitals in the last year. Some hospitals ranked tier 2 claimed the status unfairly affected their clinical reputations in the highly competitive New Jersey market. The majority of those lawsuits have been dropped or dismissed.

Horizon is one of the state’s largest insurers, serving 3.8 million out of 9 million residents.
