Highmark, health systems broker low out-of-pocket health plan

Pittsburgh-based Highmark has individually partnered with Conemaugh Health System in Johnstown, Pa., and Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa., to collaboratively develop health plans designed to lower patients’ out-of-pocket costs, reports Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The plans, expected to launch Jan. 1, operate under the mantle of Conemaugh Region Connect Blue and Lehigh Valley Flex Blue. Under each plan, Highmark will offer patients reduced out-of-pocket expenses for using Conemaugh Health System or Lehigh Valley Health Network services, respectively.

Conemaugh Health System is owned by for-profit Duke LifePoint Healthcare in Brentwood, Tenn. Lehigh Valley Health System is awaiting regulatory approval of proposed mergers with Schuylkill Health System in Pottsville, Pa., and Pocono Health System in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
