Grassley: Republicans won't repeal ACA if they retake Senate

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said Republicans will not attempt to repeal the ACA if they retake the Senate in the midterm elections, The Washington Post reported April 13.

Three things to know:

1. Mr. Grassley was asked about the future of the ACA at an April 11 town hall in Waukon, Iowa, according to the report. Mr. Grassley said, "We're not going to repeal the Affordable Care Act," but then clarified that there are 49 other Senate Republicans and he was only speaking for himself.

2. "While noting that he can't speak for all of his colleagues, he predicted that the law wouldn't be repealed in its entirety," a Grassley spokesperson said in an email to the Post. "In previous county meetings, Grassley has also noted that the focus should be on how to improve the existing health care system, including reducing the cost of prescription drugs — a priority that he's led in a bipartisan fashion."

3. Mr. Grassley was one of the most vocal opponents of the ACA when it was being debated in Congress more than 12 years ago, according to the Post
