Three things to know:
1. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp rolled out the proposal, the Patients First Act, Feb. 13. It aims to give Georgia more flexibility in using federal healthcare funding for its Medicaid program.
2. Mr. Kemp said the proposed legislation would help lower healthcare costs in the state’s private sector. The proposal would also increase access to healthcare and make it more affordable for low-income residents, according to the governor.
3. However, Democrats expressed concern over gaining Medicaid funding through a waiver as opposed to full expansion, according to AJC. Democrats argue the waiver could allow Mr. Kemp to control how the program is designed and implemented.
