Florida governor signs law banning payers from discriminating against organ donors

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation April 8 that bans payers from altering health coverage policies of organ donors, according to WFLA.

Under HB 1099, payers cannot raise members' premiums, deny or limit coverage, or cancel the policy or parts of the policy based on the fact that a Florida resident has donated an organ.

The legislation also applies to life insurance, disability insurance and long-term care insurance plans.

The new law takes effect July 1.
