Florida Blue investing $3.7M in food insecurity programs

Florida Blue will invest $3.73 million in combating food insecurity through grants to 10 community organizations, the payer said Oct. 19. 

The payer's philanthropic arm, Florida Blue Foundation, has provided over $16 million in grants to tackle food insecurity over the last four years, according to a news release. 

"These Florida Blue Foundation grants will fund programs that directly improve access to and quality of food security for people at the neighborhood level, particularly in communities with underserved, racial and ethnic minorities, and low-income populations," Florida Blue Foundation Executive Director Susan Towler said in the release. 

Organizations receiving grants include: 

  • Hispanic Unity of Florida 
  • Indian River County Department of Health 
  • Feeding Florida 
  • House of Hope 
  • Jewish Family and Community Services 
  • Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services 
  • Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Foundation 
  • Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA
  • University Area Community Development Corporation
  • Valencia College Foundation
