Federal employees and retirees will pay 10.9% more on average for their health insurance premiums in 2027, marking the third consecutive year of double-digit increases.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management released the 2027 rates Sept. 30, framing the figures as progress since the average rate of premium growth was slowed for the second year in a row.
The overall average FEHB premium increase for 2027 is 9.3%, down from 10.2% in 2026 and 11.2% in 2025. But the enrollee share has remained in double digits each year, rising 13.5% for 2025, 12.3% for 2026 and 10.9% for 2027.
The FEHB program will have 45 carriers offering 118 plan options for 2027. The Postal Service Health Benefits Program, now in its second year, will see a lower enrollee increase of 8.2%, down from 11.3% in 2026.
