The plan, Medicare BlueSalute, is designed to complement Veterans Administration benefits.

“We all know how important it is to honor the service of local veterans,” Karen Bodley, Excellus BCBS vice president for Medicare, said. “It’s also important to have health coverage that meets their needs and pairs well with existing U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs coverage — at no extra cost to them.”

Other payers have also announced new Medicare Advantage plans for veterans. Humana said Oct. 12 it will launch a veteran-focused Medicare Advantage plan co-branded with USAA.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
