Excellus BCBS pays $30M to 31 New York providers for quality improvements

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is distributing $30 million across 31 New York providers to invest in quality improvements, according to a news release shared with Becker's

The funds were awarded to providers participating in the payer's Hospital Performance Incentive Program. The program challenges providers to strengthen areas of operation, then awards funds as an incentive.

Through 2021, providers were tasked with improving three areas of their operations: clinical processes of care, patient safety and patient satisfaction.

"In 2021, Excellus BCBS's Hospital Performance Incentive Program evaluated participating hospitals on projects that are in alignment with and responsive to the ever-changing health care environment," said Stephen Cohen, MD, senior vice president and corporate medical director at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. "Although COVID is still a dominant issue for the hospitals, the best evidence that this collaboration is a success is that our partners are able to maintain focus on continuous quality improvement."
