Mass General Brigham Health Plan is launching a new Value HMO product for large employers on Jan. 1.
The HMO uses a high-value provider network, rather than a broader network. The HMO includes access to hospitals and affiliated providers under Somerville-based Mass General Brigham, as well as other health systems in eastern Massachusetts. In an Oct. 15 news release shared with Becker’s, Mass General Brigham Health Plan said it would still offer full-network commercial products along with the new Value HMO.
The rollout comes as employers continue to face healthcare cost pressures. Aon projects U.S. employer healthcare costs will rise 9.5% in 2027.
“The Value HMO expands our portfolio with a thoughtfully designed option that delivers meaningful savings while connecting members to trusted providers, leading hospitals and the support they need to navigate their healthcare journey,” Jennifer St. Thomas, senior vice president of commercial and Medicare markets at Mass General Brigham Health Plan, said.
Value HMO members can lean on several Mass General Brigham Health Plan programs and services. Some programs include mental health solutions through Lyra Health, women’s health resources and virtual care options.
The plan will be available to large employers headquartered in eight Massachusetts counties and to employees who live in those counties.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
