Elevance Health eyes expanding post-acute care business

Elevance Health is planning to expand its post-acute care management program, a move the company's leaders say will contribute to the payer's growth in 2023.

On an April 19 investor call transcribed by Seeking Alpha, Elevance Health CEO Gail Boudreaux said the company is planning to extend its post-acute management solution beyond Medicare in the future.

The company's post-acute management is run through Carelon, Elevance's healthcare services arm.

Peter Haytaian, president of Carelon, told investors the company is planning to expand its post-acute management to Medicaid and commercial markets. Carelon also plans to expand into durable medical equipment and social determinants of health in these markets as well, he said.

Mr. Haytaian told investors the expansion into other lines of business will happen over the next year.

"What we're trying to really do here is create a differentiated experience for post-acute care providers," Mr. Haytaian said. "So when they are in need of services or approval of services, they're dealing with technology in a portal that's differentiated, and it's a streamlined service so that they can get the approvals they need in the most appropriate fashion."
