DOJ: Florida lab owner filed $42M in false claims to UnitedHealthcare

UnitedHealthcare received $42 million in fraudulent claims over four years from a South Florida clinic, the Justice Department announced Feb. 10.

Bradley Jason Kantor, who owned Davie, Fla.-based Mobile Diagnostic Imaging, was sentenced Feb. 9 to 10 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

According to the Justice Department, Kantor filed the claims between 2013 and 2017.

The claims were filed as antigen and allergen immunotherapy services, but were bills for services never provided. Mr. Kantor then paid kickbacks to those that helped refer new beneficiaries to Mobile Diagnostic Imaging.

Of the $42 million in filed claims, UnitedHealthcare paid $12 million in reimbursements, which never reached beneficiaries.

Mr. Kantor used the funds to buy real estate, motor coaches and a 37-foot yacht.
