The report, titled “State-Level Trends in Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance, 2012–2016,” examined Medical Expenditure Panel Survey-Insurance Component weighted estimates. MEPS-IC estimates use the Census Bureau’s Business Register in its weighting process.
Here are three findings from the report.
1. From 2015 to 2016, the percentage of employees covered by high-deductible health plans increased 3.2 percent to 42.6 percent.
2. While premium increases continued, the premium growth rate was unchanged from 2015 to 2016.
3. Employee contribution for family health plans varied greatly between states in 2016. Contributions ranged from 20 percent in Michigan to 36.1 percent in Missouri.
